Walid is of Lebanese origin and was born in Syria in 1979. He currently lives and works in Paris. Before obtaining his Fine Arts diploma from the University of Damascus in 2005, Walid studied mosaic between the years 1994 and 2000 and attended the Summer Academy at Darat Al-Funoun under the direction of the artist and painter Marwan Kassab Bachi in Amman. Walid’s works were represented by Ayyam Gallery in Syria, London, Lebanon and Gulf countries from 2007 to 2015. There are several projects that currently occupy the spirit of Walid El Masri; the projects include: “La Chaise” since 2004, “Cocoon” since 2014 and “Le Paon” since 2018.
His works were exhibited at both personal and group exhibitions including ones at The Institute of Cultures of Islam in Paris (2020), Maison des Artistes – Malakoff Contemporary Art Center (2019), Karim Gallery in Amman (2019 and 2016), Ferney-Voltaire Castle (2018), the Institut du Monde Arabe Paris (2018 and 2014), Europia Gallery in Paris (2017 and 2014), Busan Museum of Art (Curator: Yu Yeon Kim) in South Korea (2014), the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations in Marseille (2014), the Palais des Bozar in Brussels (2014), Magic of Persia in Los Angeles (2014) as well as the French Cultural Center in Damascus (2006). Walid also participated in Cairo Art Biennial (2010), Beijing Art Festival (2009) and the Biennial of Contemporary Art in Tehran (2005).
