Born in 1974, Souaad Abdelrasoul currently lives and works in Cairo. Souaad graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1998 and holds a master’s degree in History of Art (2005) and a PhD in Modern Art History (2012). Her artistic practices span the mediums of drawing, painting, sculpturing and graphic designing which fuse both abstract and figurative art. By depicting metamorphosed figures, the artist does not seek visualizing human physical beauty, but rather attempts to reflect on the connections between humans and elements of existence like earth, metals and plants. We are part of the earth and the earth is part of every single one of us. By practicing this, Souaad reconceptualizes the way humans perceive space and repurposes notions of body, science, and nature into something strikingly personal.
Souaad’s talents include designing book covers and children’s books as well as conducting art workshops for children both inside and outside Egypt. Some of the previous local workshops were held at Townhouse Gallery and Goethe Institute.
Souaad’s works have been on display starting1998 all the way to 2020. Having participated in over 20 local and international exhibitions, Souaad’s works were exhibited in various galleries and art fairs. Among them are Egypt International Art Fair (2020), 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in Marrakech (2020), – 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London (2018) and Beirut Art Fair (2018). She also held a wide range of other solo exhibitions in Cairo, Kenya and the United States.
