Omar is an Egyptian independent visual artist, curator and cultural program coordinator at the Museum of Fine Arts of Alexandria. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria and completed his master’s degree in Fine Arts in 2020. He also trained as a teaching assistant, attended a Training at Madrassa (a regional program of residencies, meetings and training in contemporary curatorial practices) and collaborated with L’Atelier de l’Observatoire (Art and Research) in Casablanca (2017). Omar has organized many exhibitions, concerts and activities including an exhibition of Hussein Sobhy’s collectibles, a retrospective of Bakry Mohammed Bakry among others.
Throughout his years as an artist, Omar has been particularly interested in prehistoric art techniques along with how artists can use them in contemporary works to question their preconceived notions of beauty, ugliness as well as reality. Omar has participated in various exhibitions both inside and outside Egypt including Youth Salon (2013), Collective Madrassa in Denmark (2016), an exhibition at Fine Art Lovers Organizations as well as several other exhibitions.
He has won several prizes during his career including Zeyad Beker Prize at Youth Salon in 2013, CIB Prize in 2013, 1st Prize at Fine Arts Lovers Organization, 1st Prize in the 2nd Dai Festival for Youth Artists among other awards. Omar has a number of collectibles in Egypt as well as other counties.
