Nivine Hamza
Nevine Hamza was born and raised in Cairo. She holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University in 2007 and currently heads her own architecture and interior design studio.
Hamza is a self-taught artist who loves to experiment with different mediums, including photography, digital art, collage and painting. In 2017, Hamza attended the contemporary art program at Magd El Sagini’s atelier, where she participated in several workshops with different contemporary artists.
With a taste for architecture, Hamza’s work is characterized by visual geometric aesthetics, blurring the boundaries between earth and sky. The sky opening up into space stands in as the main character in her work, serving as a reflection of her ideas and provoking a deep sense of silence, perspective, and thought.
She participated in several group exhibitions across Egypt, such as “Magd El Sagini Students” Exhibition at Ubuntu Gallery in 2017, “Thin Air” at SOMA Gallery in 2018, “ Sameness” curated by Adsum Art on the sidelines of the Gouna Film Festival in 2018. Her work was selected among other contemporary artists at the SOMA exclusive event for contemporary art in collaboration with the French Institute in Egypt in 2019. She held her first Solo “Roaming Echoes” at SOMA Gallery November 2019.
